Im back with another university assignment !. Recently before the world collapsed due to the virus we were allocated new groups in our seminars and were briefed with a formative project based around the idea of creating an effective marketing poster which would target people with long term illnesses .
So I bet your thinking people with long term illnesss ... what does this focus on ? basically every kind of long term symptom whether it be something small and not life threatening such as diabetes to something very serious like cancer so we found it very difficult to confine this target audience without being biased towards one condition we aimed to reach out to everyone which took a lot of brain storming and research .
We discussed in our groups what was effecting people with long term illnesses the most ?. We concluded that it was the whole idea of not being accepted which effected them the most which we were going to apply to our poster design as the main focus message . A perfect example of what I said above is lets say there is 12 year old in school and she has diabetes , she takes out a syringe in which she must inject to herself each day , her classmates see her and look at her as an outlier or a 'weirdo' yet a condition so small but so long lasting has a turbulent effect over time which is why we aimed to create a message that everyone is the same no matter what differences we may have physically or mentally .
When virus became serious a lot of my group travelled home and it was very difficult to meet up arrange and plan this project which was due in 2 weeks . Later the university announced its closure , due to this everyone travelled home to safety including myself . I had to catch a flight to Ireland which I just about made 15 minutes before take off which was definitely the closest I've been to missing a flight : [RULE OF THUMB] never rely on someone to drop you to an airport that suffers from car sickness .. anyway I made It home covered in sweat from the flight traumas and chihuahua hairs like usual because my mom decides to bring our whole family of dogs (3) whenever I'm being collected !.
After a few hectic days unpacking at home I got in touch with my group who also had a busy week and realised we had done little work for this project which was due in a week and was very difficult to start when we were all based in different parts of the world so I decided to tackle the poster alone .

I started with the research we gained in our group and discover insights and ideas of how I would approach the poster . There wasn't a specific consumer profile in which I could create as the category of long term illnesses is so broad ! The main discovery from the NHS research I did was the linkage between mental health and physical condition can seriously effect each other if they BOTH are not treated and monitored as most patients don't think that helping their mental health helps physically to their condition . I took the idea of equality , light heartiness and clarity when designing the poster . After some brain storming ideas I came up with the concept of creating a podium of 1st , 2nd and 3rd place upside with 3 character standing on each one on the opposite side symbolising my main message of "We are all the same " and felt it was an effective creative idea showing that no matter what advantage people may have over other whether it be physically or mentally at the end if the day we are all the same . When it came to what kind of characters I wanted to use for the poster I came up with the idea of using the Simpson's . The Simpson's is a world wide recognised show which all generations relate to young or old the show projects language and humour suiting every age group . From researching and looking at previous NHS and the the company poster's I noticed they all seemed to be very depressing and dull with no energy or enthusiasm and being very serious .. so I deiced to completely turn the tables and create a bit fo light hearted humour in this poster by using the Simpsons to to a put a little smile of someone's face . In term so the main poster colour , I used light yellow as yellow is the most eye catching colour and also is the most energetic colour there is so why not have this colour way protruding on buildings instantly catching peoples eye !.

Finally when it came to the contact idea I wanted to stand out from just a normal optional phone number to ring . personally I fell like if someone may have one of these illnesses whether it be physically or mentally then a phone call cane be very daunting and requires a lot fo effort , people may build up even more anxiety while on the phone so I came to the idea of having a QR code in which the person may scan to be automatically referred to the booking page in where they may book an available free slot to have a consultation . modern technology is being used more and more each day even in the older generation and feel like this option would be more effective to the audience .
Overall I enjoyed this project as it was nothing like anything we have done before and was a complete new challenge of perspectives and marketing ideas towards a new type of consumer .
