My group at uni were asssinged a task over several weeks taken from inspiration off a magazine where we picked out 5 additives which characterised it perfectly !, the 5 adjectives in which we came up with were 'liberations of the housewife' , 'imprisonment', 'destruction of the mundane' , free active movement', 'liquified origamic shapes' and ' busy monochrome patterns' this black and white series of images depicts a female battling to be freed from her inner conflict. The only materials used within these photographs are the accessory of a bag which we collectively decided to be nin bags and they have either been use , manipulated , or destructed in every shot . the light used in tis series of images Is that of street light and also artificial light inside the liberty point building , which was later transformed in post-production to achieve a black and white finish .
The idea behind 'conflict' as the title would suggest was a torn female ,however we did not want this to be only exclusive to her and sober identity is shielded so that she could be anyone maybe even you . It was our goal to do this in a way that would provoke curiosity and imagination in its audiences and so the innovative use and implicit meanings of the bag are significant to do so . Bin bags tell a story of inner conflict : in one shot the bags try ton restrain and pull the female back, and in another they are almost drowning and suffocating her ; the female is debilitated by this battle . The bags also serve as a symbol for the baggage that we all carry that may well be the reason we experience inner conflicts as we cannot fully commit to one thing . Imprisonments communicated by the shadows-which also form monochrome patterns p for they are suggestive of confinement and a prison . This is also further emphasis by the lack of colour in this series which suggests are unhappy existence . Finally , the models active poses connote movement making this mental battle physical . 'Conflict' culminates in a. final set that sees her successfully break the bag ready to run free : she is now liberated .
